Salman said, "You are the judge; whatever you say is correct."
Sonil Dedhia/Rediff.com on the courtroom drama as the actor is convicted in a 2002 hit-and-run case.
Khan was sentenced to five years in jail by a Mumbai sessions court, which convicted him of culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the 2002 hit-and-run case. Sessions court judge D W Deshpande ruled "all charges" against the actor have been proved, including the stringent charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, besides various other offences, including rash and negligent driving and driving under influence of liquor.
The Constitution (One Hundred and Nineteenth Amendment) Bill, 2013 was unanimously passed by the upper house, with 180 votes in favour and zero against it.
The Bill to operationalise the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh was on Tuesday cleared by the Union Cabinet and now includes territories in Assam along with those in West Bengal, Tripura and Meghalaya.
Highly placed sources said government has already talked to various parties in the Upper House, where an earlier bill in this regard is pending since December 2013.
Government had earlier proposed to bring the bill in Lok Sabha, but faced stiff opposition from the opposition that wanted that territories in Assam be included in it.
The inclusion of Assam territories in the Bill indicates government's resolve to get the legislation cleared after bringing all parties on board.
Government will bring the Constitutional Amendment Bill for ratification of the Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh. It would require ratification of at least 50 per cent of the state legislatures before it comes into effect. The clearing of the Bill by Union Cabinet comes a day after the top leadership of BJP and RSS discussed the bill with its Assam leaders and decided to include the territories pertaining to the state.
The bail order has to reach the sessions court from the High Court before Salman Khan can go back home to Galaxy Apartments.
The High Court goes on vacation on Friday, but there are vacation benches set up to hear urgent cases.

Deora had tweeted earlier:India's judiciary may have spoken, but for those of us whose lives @BeingSalmanKhan has touched so deeply, his sentence is a major setback

It's wait and watch for the actor and his family.
Just kidding. The picture was tweeted by dharmesh thakkar @news_houndz
And yes, Salman's lawyers move high court for bail. If the actor had been given a three year jail term, the bail could have been given by the sessions court.
The sense that one gets from social media is complete empathy for Salman Khan. The actor tried to get his driver to get to be the fall guy.
Syed Firdaus Ashraf/Rediff.com says refutes media reports that Salman Khan wept as Judge Deshpande handed out his sentence. Firdaus called in to say that not once did Salman or his family break down in the courtroom today.
Media reports had earlier said that Salman had also broken down when the judge pronounced him guilty, which Firdaus said was not true. Salman looked dejected but stoic, and did not break down.
