National Library of Wales a 'unique institution'

The National Library of Wales is a "unique institution" which should be given a "far more prominent role" by the Welsh Government, its president has said.

Rhodri Glyn Thomas raised concerns about the Aberystwyth facility in the wake of the vote for Brexit.

He told BBC Wales there was a danger that Wales could be seen as a "region rather than a country" if national institutions are not strengthened.

The Welsh Government said it recognises "the important role that the National Library and other sponsored bodies play in Welsh public life".
