Former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea, who was questioned for nearly 12 hours by the Mumbai police for his role in Sheena murder case, on Wednesday said that he was not in India when Sheena Bora was killed. Mukerjea is likely to be called again for interrogation today.

According to official sources, Peter was questioned about his wife Indrani's relationship with Sheena and Mikhail Bora. He was also grilled on certain financial aspects concerning the family as police attempt to unravel a money angle to deduce the exact motives behind Sheena's killing, which has eluded the investigators so far.

Media honcho Mukerjea was interrogated by the police in the presence of the three accused, who are in police custody until September 5. Mukerjea reached the Khar police station on Wednesday morning for recording of his statement. Indrani, the main accused in Sheena murder case, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai, who were allegedly involved in the murder, were also brought there a little later.

Mukerjea, who has been married to Indrani for 13 years and set up a media company with her, had first said that he was unaware that Sheena was his wife's daughter and that Indrani had introduced her as her sister.

A few days after Indrani's arrest, Peter amended his version to say Sheena did inform him that she was his step-daughter, but he had no reasons not to believe his wife Indrani's denial of that claim though he found it "difficult to digest".

He claimed that the same thing was communicated to him by his son Rahul Mukerjea, but he had not believed him as well.

Meanwhile, Indrani Mukerjea is reported to have told her lawyers that Mikhail is her adopted son, a claim that runs contrary to what Siddhartha Das, Indrani's former partner recently traced in Kolkata, told reporters 24 hours ago.

Mikhail, on the other hand, has maintained his bitterness for his mother and has even alleged that he was the next target after Sheena, who was allegedly strangled to death and then her body burnt by Indrani, her former husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai on April 24, 2012.

Mumbai Police quizzes Siddharth Das on relations with Indrani

Mumbai Police on Wednesday interrogated Siddharth Das, who was in a relationship with Indrani Mukerjea, for the first time in connection with Sheena Bora murder case and recorded his statement.

According to officers of Dum Dum police station, three officers of Mumbai Police went to Das' residence at around 8 pm and questioned him for about one and half hour about his relationship with Indrani, Sheena and Mikhail Bora and about the reasons behind his "separation" with Indrani.

Was disturbed to know about Sheena Bora's death: Siddhartha Das

The police quizzed Das on whether his separation with Indrani was mutual and whether there were any legal documents confirming the separation, the officers said.

Siddharth Das was asked whether he had any contacts with Indrani, Sheena or Mikhail after the separation and whether he ever visited Indrani's parents after parting ways with her, they said.

"Das's statement has been recorded and will be matched with those of Indrani's. He has also signed on his statement. Now if it doesn't match, then Siddharth could be detained for further questioning," said a senior police officer.

On whether Mumbai Police was contemplating interrogating Das in the presence of Indrani, the officer said "that could be a probability."
