wo more cases were filed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi for questioning the "DNA" of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a lawyer said in Patna on Tuesday. Two Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leaders have filed the cases in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's courts in Muzaffarpur and Hajipur districts, which will hear the case on August 1.

The leader who filed the case in Muzaffarpur said Modi not only insulted Nitish but also "11 crore people of Bihar" by saying there was some problem with the chief minister's DNA. Addressing a public meeting in Muzaffarpur, 70 km from Patna, Modi on Saturday said: "There seems to be some problem in his DNA because the DNA of democracy is not like that . In a democracy, you give respect even to your political rivals."

On Monday, the first case was filed against Modi in a Muzaffarpur court by a Janata Dal-United leader who requested the court to order a First Information Report or FIR against Modi.

Modi insulted Bihar, says Nitish

Nitish Kumar had replied to the remark at a press meet by calling it an insult to Bihar. "I am a Bihari and Modi has insulted and humiliated all Biharis by questioning my DNA and using such language," the JD-U leader, who broke his 17-year-old alliance with the BJP in 2013, said.

Nitish said he failed to understand how a prime minister, which is a top constitutional post, can use such language against a chief minister like him. "It has exposed that standards have deteriorated to such an extent," he said, adding that the people of Bihar would give a reply to Modi and BJP in the upcoming Assembly polls for the insult.

Modi kickstarts Bihar campaign

Modi had on Saturday denounced his former ally, Nitish Kumar, only hours after sharing a stage with him, as he formally kickstarted the NDA's Bihar campaign. Urging the thousands gathered at Chakkar Maidan in Muzaffarpur not to bring back "jungle raj" in Bihar, Modi bracketed Nitish and RJD chief Lalu Prasad as he sought support for the BJP and its allies.

Only hours after praising Nitish Kumar in Patna for his requests and suggestions related to Bihar's development, Modi did a U-turn, hitting out at the JD-U leader for the state's backwardness. "I was not the only one to be backstabbed by him. The people of Bihar were also backstabbed," he said at the rally, referring to the chief minister's decision to leave the National Democratic Alliance after Modi was picked to head the BJP for the 2014 general elections.
