  • Speaking on Monday he urged the Immortal to see this as a turning point
  • Channel Nine axed Johns from NRL Grand Final coverage on Sunday
  • Presenter was due to be part of the broadcast of Sunday's season decider
  • It came a day after photo emerged of Johns 'passed out' in an airport
  • Married mother-of-three also accused him of trying to kiss her while drunk

Radio broadcaster Ray Hadley has rebuked Andrew Johns for his 'abhorrent' and 'mortifying' behaviour after he allegedly tried to kiss a married mother-of-three at an airport while 'intoxicated.'

Speaking on air on Monday, Mr Hadley said he hoped the rugby league Immortal would start altering his behaviour and 'wake up to himself,' after he was axed from Channel Nine's grand final broadcast on Sunday.

This comes after a 42-year-old woman accused Johns of 'disgusting behaviour' when he allegedly asked her if she had a cesarean and shared a picture of him passed out on the floor of an airport next to a bin.

'I can't imagine how the other immortals are feeling in light of the comments passed by Andrew Johns. They'd be mortified by them. Mortified,' Mr Hadley said on radio on Monday, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

'He needs to wake up to himself. He needs to start behaving himself in a manner befitting one of the game's immortals.'

Mr Hadley urged Johns to see this moment as a 'crossroads' in his broadcasting future and to 'wake up to himself,' instead of continuing his bizarre behaviour.

Channel Nine sports director Steve Crawley made the decision to drop the ex-NRL player from Sunday night's coverage of the match between the Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys.

'We've made the decision to stand him down,' Mr Crawley said at the time.

'He will not be on air for any part of our coverage.'

Helen Wright, from Queensland, accused Johns of being drunk and disorderly at an airport in Toowomba, saying he even asked her whether she had a cesarean birth.

She also posted a picture of the former NRL star lying on the floor in the airport in a white shirt and jeans and claimed an intoxicated Johns tried to kiss her.

'Andrew Johns was absolutely disgusting. He was severely intoxicated,' Ms Wright posted on Facebook.

'When I refused to kiss him and replied I was happily married and had three sons his question to me was 'did you have a cesarean birth'?'

'Disgusting, disgraceful and a very bad example for all to see.'

The former Newcastle legend, 41, has apologised to the married mother-of-three, but he denied that he had passed out on the floor.

'I didn't pass out. I went to the other side of the airport. I got a pillow and had a sleep,' he told the Courier Mail.

'Some bloke's walked out of his way, about 30 or 40 metres, and taken the picture.

'Look I did the wrong thing by the way I spoke to the lady and I regret it and I have apologised.

'Nine are obviously treating it seriously by standing me down.'

He had travelled to Toowoomba for an NRL grand final lunch with about 120 guests.

After the event, the commentator was dropped off at the Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport to catch a 7pm flight to Sydney, but the plane was delayed by three hours.

He was pictured enjoying a few drinks in the airport bar.

Mrs Wright confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that Johns contacted her on Saturday and offered an apology for his behaviour.

'I wish that football commentators [had] more pride and a much higher standard of behaviour in public,' Ms Wright wrote on social media.

'This is not an example that should be presented to children that were present! Many of the children had taken photos of him passed out. My own sons have played football all their lives and we love the game. But not this aspect of the game.'

But a mother-of-one from Sydney, who was on the same flight as Johns, has insisted that the TV star was just 'resting' rather than being passed out.

She posted a picture of Johns posing with her son and said the presenter stopped to sign autographs.

'I would like people to know that my son was on this flight with Andrew Johns. He was a very plesant man and took a photo and signed autographs for him,' she said.

'People are human and entitled to be tired.

'He was pleasant to me and my husband when they landed very late. People invaded this man's privacy by taking photos when he was resting, not passed out.'

Johns is currently in negotiations with Channel Nine with his contract expiring after Sunday night's NRL grand final between the Broncos and Cowboys.

He said he would be watching tonight's game from home.

Johns has previously admitted that he regularly used drugs and alcohol throughout his successful career.
