India strengthens defence capabilities by upgrading tech, plans to ‘completely seal’ Pakistan border

India plans to boost its defence capabilities by upgrading technology along the interbational border and plans to ‘completely seal’ Pakistan border in the next two years.

New Delhi, Oct 22: To strengthen India-Pakistan international border against infiltration and keep vigil on terror activities, India has decided to upgrade for laser walls and motion sensors that will detect any break-ins from across the western border. Along with the high-tech laser walls that are keeping a vigil across the border, India is also planning to draw virtual borders and completely seal the international border with Pakistan in the next two years.

As per reports, home ministry officials explained that GPS coordinates of longitude and latitude fixed at least 200 metres to one kilometer inside Pakistan side would be used as a virtual border. Earlier this year, the Border Security Force (BSF) had confirmed the installation of CRON laser walls at certain areas along the border that would keep a vigil on intrusion attempts.

As per reports, the Border Security Force (BSF) upgraded the laser wall technology being used along the border in late September- early October. The infra red rays and laser beams that are being used cannot just detect when there is a breach but can also tell differentiate between man and beast. Minor upgrades of these systems were done over the months and new series of virtual laser walls were installed on eight kilometres of border following surgical strike that took place last month.(ALSO READ: BSF kills 7 Pakistani rangers,1 terrorist in retaliatory fire, gives befitting reply to Pakistan)

 “Human error can never be neglected and therefore BSF needs the latest technology to guard our borders because the counterpart will never stop attempting (to intrude). I am proud to know that these systems are being made in India”, former BSF inspector general Rakesh Sharma said. Sharma was the first one who who first adopted the technology.

Upgradation of the laser wall with a system called micron is being designed and manufactured in India. This technology will however enable encrypted communication for five-layer fencing. The pilot will be seen in February-March in Jammu and will thus make the Jammu border one of the most Intrusion proof borders in the world.(ALSO READ: LoC firing: Pakistan denies killing of 7 Rangers, says India resorted to unprovoked firing)

Founder of CRON Systems, Tushar Chhabra was quoted by DNA saying that the surgical strike made the situation at the borders more tense and we were requested to upgrade all existing systems with the newer KVI-101S (technology) since the BSF believes that this time around the intrusion attempts will increase. He also mentioned that the plan is to cover the entire frontier with the new laser walls by February-March next year. He stated the new technology uses next generation IR optics to provide all weather and harsh terrain early detection capabilities.

CRON Systems also confirms in its website that it is working on automated drones and smart fencing will add to India’s defence capabilities and make it even stronger. “The KVI-101S system requires very little human intervention, has smarter detection capabilities and the encryptions are hack-proof. The previous technology was not capable of managing in marshy lands, which is the condition in most frontier areas. With the new KVI series, that problem has been resolved,” Chhabra said.

“We are planning to use this kind of latest high end technology in areas that are inaccessible due to the very difficult terrain. The idea is to check the infiltration attempts before the terrorists reach the actual border; for this, the key is having enough response time in hand,” an official stated.

An official of the BSF said, “While bringing in technology is not a problem, the biggest challenge before the ministry is to train BSF personnel. “For this we need jawans with both brain and brawn who have the mindset to adapt to the new technology”. “The next two years will also be dedicated to train and induct a large number of BSF personnel who can effectively put the new technology to use,” said the official.

The Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector of Jammu district on Friday night and resorting to firing. The border between India and Pakistan runs for about 3,000 kilometres. In retaliation, the BSF claimed to have killed seven Pakistan Rangers and one terrorist in the in the Kathua sector on the international border. “Pakistan Rangers, the border force of Pakistan, resorted to sniper attacks at Indian posts at Hira Nagar in Kathua at around 9.35 am”, BSF said. “Small arms bursts are beings fired by Pakistan Rangers in Abdullian village in the Suchetgarh sector in RS Pura,” Deputy Commissioner Jammu Simrandeep Singh said.

However, Pakistan denied claims regarding the killing of any Pakistani soldiers by Indian Border Security Forces. It also issued a statement in which General Asim Bajwa, Director General, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the claims made by Indian Army of hitting or killing any Pakistani soldier/Rangers with firing at the LOC are completely false.
