New Delhi: Heavy rains triggered by cyclone Komen wreaked havoc in several states including Odisha, West Bengal and Gujarat claiming at least 100 lives, causing floods and displacing lakhs of people.
West Bengal
At least 47 people have been reported dead due to heavy rains which has crippled several parts of the state and severely affected 12 districts.
Train services have been and several areas of the city are filled with knee-deep water making it difficult to travel.
Fatalities were reported from several parts of the state. In Murshidabad, a girl was swept away by strong water currents while a woman in Howrah's Panchla died after her mud house collapsed due to heavy rains.
Houses were submerged in water damaging two lakhs residential structures and forcing over a lakh people into relief camps. Boats were being used by people to travel to their destinations in several rain-hit parts of the state.
Farmers have also been worse-hit with over 2.10 lakh hectares of farmland being destroyed in the rain-hit districts.
Meanwhile, the Met Department has predicted 'heavy to very heavy rainfall'.
Odisha
Heavy rains continue to hit Odisha where several villages have been marooned in Balasore district.
Houses have been submerged forcing people to take shelter in relief camps while roads have been flooded with water.
At least five people have lost their lives so far.
Gujarat
At least 75 people have been reported dead after heavy rains lashed the state causing flood-like situation and affecting lakhs of people in five districts.
The worst-hit Banaskantha district where at least 28 people have been killed.
Thousands of stranded people have been rescued by 14 teams comprising 592 jawans of different agencies including National Disaster Response Force, Border Security Force, State Reserve Police and five Air Force helicopters.
Manipur
At least 20 people have reportedly lost their lives after landslide hit at Zoumoal village under Khangbarol sub-division.
In Chandel, houses were swept away due to flash floods while roads were damaged with cracks appearing on them.
Relief and rescue operation work by the NDRF is underway to help thousands of people who are still stranded.
Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju is expected the the state on Monday.
