Sheena Bora murder case: Sanjeev Khanna confesses to role in crime

Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said that during interrogation Indrani Mukerjea's former husband Sanjeev Khanna has confessed to his complicity in the crime.

Revelations in the Sheena Bora murder case have moved at the rate of knots ever since it was first reported in the media three days ago. While the police recovered skeletal remains of a human body from Pen forest in Raigad district, Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani Mukerjea's second husband, admitted to his role in the crime.

Talking to reporters late on Friday, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said, "This morning skeletal remains of Sheena Bora were recovered. Her passport was also recovered from Dehradun. This negates the theory that she went to the US."

"We interrogated the third accused (Sanjeev Khanna) and he has confessed to his complicity in the crime. Further investigation is on. We interrogated Mikhail and he also gave us some vital details. We are verifying those," Maria said.

"Tomorrow we shall be dispatching the skeletal remains of the deceased for DNA tests," Maria added. Also read: Indrani is a loving mother, says daughter Vidhie

All the three accused Indrani Mukerjea, Sanjeev Khanna and her driver Shyam Rai were jointly interrogated by Mumbai police officials with Maria leading the probe. Khanna, earlier in the day was also taken to the spot in Raigad district where Sheena's body was dumped. He has been sent to police custody till August 31.

Khanna has been charged with murder, kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, destroying evidence and more. His mobile phone, laptop and passport have been seized but he has denied the police charges.

Police are also browsing the details of incriminating telephone call records of Khanna and Indrani, email exchanges, birth certificates, school records and other documents that have emerged during the investigation.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria is personally conducting the interrogation of various players including Indrani, Khanna, Rai, Peter Mukherjea, his step-son Rahul, who admits to having had a relationship with Sheena, and Mikhail for the past three days.

Police also proposed to confront Peter Mukerjea with Indrani. However, Peter requested the officials to excuse him and gave a written statement instead which was rejected. He is likely to be summoned again for face to face interrogation later, sources said.

The former Star TV CEO is likely to be called again for further questioning and confronted with all three accused. According to the FIR filed in Sheena murder case on August 25, 2015, she was killed on Tuesday, 24 April, 2012.

The FIR, filed by Ganesh Dalvi who works as ATC operator with Khar police station, names Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyamvar Rai and Sanjeev Khanna as accused in the case. A case has been filed against these three under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 120, 364, 302 and 201.
