Sheena Bora
Mumbai police has recovered samples from the spot in Raigad on the instance of Sanjeev and Shyamvar Rai.

A diary believed to be written by Sheena Bora has surfaced and it could be a crucial piece of evidence in solving the mystery behind her murder allegedly by her mother Indrani Mukerjea. The entries in the diary show she had a troubled teenage and a relationship with Indrani which was far from normal.

An entry made on February 11, 2003, says: "OH! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! But I am not happy. It seems as if I have got nothing in my life. Nothing. My future seems very pale to me. Just depression has encircled me from all sides. Disgusting life it is. I hate my mother. That bloody bitch. She is not a mother, she is a witch. She must have been.."

On the next day, February 12, 2003, she wrote, "A keep of so many persons over all these years. God only knows. And now that she got married with that old man. Her this act to Aita & Kaka seems very prestigious, very wise but not in case of me. I hate her. I wish her soul gets condemned not even in hell. I have much grief, much tears to flow but when, where and in front of whom?" Mumbai police arrested Indrani and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna for the Sheena's murder.

The police said they have found the diary while searching Khanna's Kolkata house. While Sheena's hatred for her mother is expressed in the diary, there are entries about her biological father Siddhartha Das who she wanted to meet. Sheena has written that she was sad for not being able to be in touch with him.

"Dear Daddy, I want to send you letters but I don't have envelope to post it and I even don't know where these envelopes are available. I even don't like to ask them to bring envelopes for I know they don't want me to write any letter to you. But I have to write a lot to By Mail Today Bureau Believed to be written by her, it can be crucial proof in solving the case Mumbai police arrested Indrani, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyamvar Rai for their alleged role in the murder of Sheena Bora (above). you as I miss you a lot. I love you a lot. Daddy I know you love me a lot. I want to..," the entry dated July 2, 2002, reads.

The following day she wrote: "Talk to you and know whatever you want to tell me. I can't ring you up! Don't you remember me dad. They say that you are not good. They do (blame) you for everything worse (that) happen. But my conscience does not allow me to believe them. Sometimes I wonder whether they are just feelings or a thing that's true. I want to know the truth." It appears Sheena wanted to meet Das, and this finds mention in the diary.

"Hey daddy, why don't you come to Guwahati... I'm having my classes from September. Miss you a lot Daddy. Hope you do the same. I'll wait for your letter. With lots of love and kisses yours, Sheena," read one of the entries dated July 30, 2002.

Though Sheena was reportedly murdered in 2012 and her body disposed of in Raigad district, the crime came to light only recently. The bones and other skeletal remains found from the forest have been sent for forensic tests, whose results are going to be crucial in cracking the case.

Mumbai police go with own samples

The Raigad police botch up in Sheena murder case has had far reaching consequences. Mumbai police has now distanced itself from the findings of the Raigad police that it had conducted three years ago. It is not relying on the bone samples collected by Raigad police and have instead sent the samples collected by them recently.

Sources in Mumbai police have confirmed to Mail Today that it has only sent samples collected by them last month to Kalina Forensic Science Lab. The samples were picked up on the instance of driver Shyamvar Rai and Sanjeev Khanna from the same spot from where Raigad police had discovered the body three years ago.

One month after Sheena was killed, a body was discovered which is suspected to be her's. By then the body had decomposed and so the Raigad police couldn't carry out the post-mortem but had seized samples of burnt bones, tooth and hair strands. Those samples were then preserved in Mumbai's JJ Hospital.

In order to have a focused probe and to stay clear of any contradiction, the Mumbai police decided to send the samples of a bone and two pieces of teeth recovered by them. These samples will be used to carry out DNA tests to establish whether the body dumped in Raigad belonged to Sheena and whether she is Indrani's daughter or not.

Supreme Court lawyer KTS Tulsi said, "It appears Mumbai police doesn't want to fire all their bullets at the same time." In case the samples sent by them do not match with Sheena they always have the option of sending the old samples which were collected in 2012.

"Other than the statement of accused, the Mumbai police have sufficient scientific evidence like exchange of emails, cell phone location records, text messages, which would be sufficient for them to prove their case in the court," KTS Tulsi said.

Moreover in criminal jurisprudence there is a concept of last seen of the deceased before his/her disappearance. In Sheena's case, Peter's son Rahul is the witness who last saw her before she was allegedly abducted by the three accused.
