KELOWNA, B.C. – A permit to operate a 35,000-plus Christmas light display at Kelowna’s Kerry Park has been denied, according to the Rotary Clubs of Kelowna.

The display has been set up at the waterfront location for two years with the help of the City, but this year it will have to find a new home.

“Rotary’s application for an electrical permit was denied,” says a release from Mario Paré, with the Kelowna Rotary Club.

Electrical permit issues delayed set up in 2013, with the City lending a hand by donating $15,000 for electrical upgrades to the Festival of Lights display that year.

The entire display was donated to Rotary in 2013 by Jerry Budnick, who retired it from his Lakeview Heights home after 13 years.

Rotary is now looking for a new lot that is around 28 square metres to set up the display for the holidays.

“Access to a power supply would be beneficial. Rotary will cover all the costs,” says Paré.

Admission is expected to be free this year. In the past, it was by donation.

The request is also for road access as traffic volumes are expected.

Anyone with information about a possible site for the light display is asked to contact Lockie at 250-869-5432.
