RIYADH, Saudi Arabia -- An Indian maid's employer in Saudi Arabia allegedly chopped off her hand when she tried to quit.

Kasthuri Munirathinam was desperate to escape her life of "harassment and torture," her sister told the Press Trust of India.

When she tried to flee, her employer apparently cut off her hand as punishment.

The Twitter account of Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had a series of messages Friday about Munirathinam's case, saying India was "very much disturbed over the brutal manner in which Indian lady has been treated in Saudi Arabia."

Swaraj wrote India had contacted Saudi authorities about the case.

The official Saudi Press Agency did not immediately report on the case.

It's the second report of mistreatment of Indian help at the hands of Arab bosses in as many months.

In September, a Saudi Arabian diplomat accused of repeatedly raping and abusing two Nepalese maids left India under cover of diplomatic immunity.
