Mumbai:
The very first student, who has taken admission at Jamia Millia Islamia's newly established centre for distance learning at Mumbai's Rizvi College is Nisha Singh.

Nisha Singh, a Arts graduate from Mumbai's Ramnarain Ruia College, is the daughter of senior BJP leader and General Secretary of BJP unit of Mumbai North Central parliamentary constituency.

After his daughter's admission at the Jamia Millia Islamia centre for distance education the BJP leader said his decision was inspired by the discussion he had with Union Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptullah.

"Jamia Millia Islamia is country's prestigious and renowned institution. It has a respectable standing all over the world", he said.

The BJP leader's decision made news because the BJP is known for its anti-Muslim and anti-Muslim institution policies.

Jamia Millia Islamia centre for distance learning at Rizvi College in Mumbai was opened only in the last week. Nisha Singh has taken admission at the centre for post graduation in politcial science M.A. Political Science (MAPS).

Jamia Millia Islamia, an institution originally established at Aligarh in United Provinces, India in 1920 became a Central University by an act of the Indian Parliament in 1988.

The story of its growth from a small institution in the pre-independence India to a central university located in New Delhi—offering integrated education from nursery to research in specialized areas—is a saga of dedication, conviction and vision of a people who worked against all odds and saw it growing step by step. They “built up the Jamia Millia stone by stone and sacrifice by sacrifice,” said Sarojini Naidu, the nightingale of India, according to the Jamia website.
