Inside the bedroom where Becky Watts died: Jurors get a grisly tour of crime scenes including the bathroom where she was dismembered with a circular saw and the garden where her remains were hidden

  • Jury were taken to Becky's home as well as the house of her alleged killers
  • Judge and barristers also took part in the visit on the second week of trial
  • Court has been told home of 'hoarder' Matthews was filled with rubbish
  • Stepbrother has admitted killing Becky but denies it was intentional

Jurors in the Becky Watts murder trial have seen where the teenager died, the bathroom where she was dismembered and the garden where her body parts were found.

Becky, 16, was allegedly murdered in her bedroom in Bristol by her stepbrother Nathan Matthews, 28, and his girlfriend Shauna Hoare, 21.

It is claimed Matthews and Hoare targeted Becky in a sexually motivated kidnap plot on February 19 this year, which culminated in her death.

A post-mortem examination found that, after her death, Becky was stabbed 15 times in the abdomen and was dismembered across her neck and above her knees, elbows and wrists.

As part of the murder trial, the jury in the case were today taken to Becky's home and saw the bedroom where Matthews suffocated her before allegedly putting her body in his car.

They also visited Matthews's cluttered home, seeing the bath where her killer allegedly used a circular saw to cut up her body as well as the rest of the house which was piled with rubbish.

They then saw the shed where her body parts, wrapped in clingfilm, were dumped.

For today's visit to the scenes of the alleged crimes, the 12-strong jury, along with the judge and barristers, were driven by coach from Bristol Crown Court.

The jury of two men and 10 women were shown around Becky's home, Matthews and Hoare's house and the garden where her body was eventually stored.

It is alleged Becky was killed at her home before her body was cut up at Matthews's house then taken to the shed of Karl Demetrius and Jaydene Parsons, which is a short walk from Matthews's home

A jury was today taken to Becky's house, where she is said to have been killed, Matthews's house, where her body was stored, and the home of Karl Demetrius, where her dismembered body was stored in a shed

The trial judge, Mr Justice Dingemans, and barristers were shown around the properties first by a police officer ahead of the jurors in their small groups.

They were driven the four miles from the city centre court to the semi-detached home where Becky lived with her father Darren Galsworthy and his wife Anjie, who is Matthews' mother.

Jurors walked around the ground floor of the property, into the conservatory and then through to the garden where they were able to look up to Becky's bedroom window.

They were also taken upstairs to see Becky's room. They returned to the coach and were driven the two miles from Matthews and Hoare's home in Crown Hill and to Matthew's friend's home in Cotton Mill Lane.

Due to the condition of Matthews and Hoare's modern mid-terrace property - piled high with black sacks of belongings and clutter - the jury were split into four groups of three.

The judge had earlier warned the jury that the police had completely emptied the house as part of their inquiries and although everything had been returned it may not be in the same position or even the same room as before.

The judge also warned the jurors about the general cleanliness of the house now compared to how it was at the time of Becky's death.

The bath had also been removed by the police during their investigation and has since been returned but not sealed in properly.

The jury has been told Matthews and Hoare killed Becky in a kidnap plot at her home on February 19.

Prosecutors say they then put her body in the boot of their car and stayed at the house, watching kids TV channel CBeebies and playing board game Simpsons Monopoly, in a bid to bolster their claim Becky had 'gone out'.

The jury were told the pair then took her body back to their house and cut her up into eight pieces, which were wrapped in clingfilm and stored in a friend's shed.

CCTV images of Matthews buying a circular power saw at a local B&Q the day after Becky died were shown in court and the prosecution said the couple went shopping for multiple rolls of clingfilm and bags in the days after the teenager disappeared.

A initial police search of their house was delayed after officers found the home of self-confessed 'hoarder' Matthews was so filled with rubbish that one detective expressed 'disgust' to his colleague, the court heard.

A second planned search had to be postponed after the couple went to a hastily-planned meal with Hoare's mother, who she had not seen for years before.

Matthews has admitted killing Becky but says it was unintentional and so denies murder. He says he wanted to scare her because of the way she treated his mother, who is married to Becky's father.

Hoare, who the jury saw giggling in a police video of an initial interview she gave, denies any knowledge of Becky's killing.

A friend of Matthews, Karl Demetrius, and his girlfriend Jaydene Parsons, have admitting assisting an offender after storing Becky's body in their shed. They deny knowing that what they were storing was her body.

Karl Demetrius's brother Donovan and workmate James Ireland deny assisting an offender. They are accused of helping to move the body parts into Karl Demetrius's shed.

The court heard Donovan Demetrius looked 'visibly tired' around the time of Becky's disappearance and said he had been up all night because of his brother's 'dodgy deal'.

A colleague of Karl Demetrius and Ireland overheard them talking about a 'job' on the night her body was allegedly moved.

Matthews, of Warmley, South Gloucestershire, denies murder and conspiracy to kidnap.

He has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice, preventing burial of a corpse and possessing a prohibited weapon.

Donovan Demetrius, 29, of Bristol, and James Ireland, 23, of Avonmouth, each deny a charge of assisting an offender.

Karl Demetrius, 29, and his partner Jaydene Parsons, 23, both of Bristol, have pleaded guilty to assisting an offender after the teenager's body was discovered in their shed. Both maintain they were unaware of what the packages actually contained.

'Attention seeking' Becky Watts 'disrespected' her killer's mother, woman accused of assisting murder told police

Becky Watts was an 'attention seeker' who 'disrespected' the mother of Nathan Matthews, his girlfriend told police.

The jury in the murder trial was today shown a video of the second police interview carried out with Shauna Hoare, which took place the day before Becky's blood was found in her house and she and Matthews were arrested.

She told police about the relationship between Becky and Anjie Galsworthy, Matthews's mother who was married to Becky's father, Darren.

Hoare told police: '[Becky] could be quite disrespectful towards Anjie and most of the time Anjie would ignore it. I don't think she really had the energy to get annoyed or angry with it.'

Becky's disappearance sparked a huge hunt for her. The search later became a murder probe

Hoare said Becky and her father would 'argue all the time' over the way the teenager would treat her stepmother.

'They used to argue about how she used to treat Anjie as she used to throw her clothes on the floor and make Anjie pick them up,' Hoare said.

Matthews later told police that he had wanted to kidnap Becky to scare her because of the way she treated his mother.

In the police interview shown to the jury today, Hoare stated that Matthews had become closer to Becky in the months before her disappearance.

'Recently, Nathan has had this thing, if he can hear her coming down the stairs he will jump out at her,' she told police days before her arrest.

'He will jump out at her and she will scream and he finds it hilarious.'

Hoare also claimed Becky was an attention-seeker who manipulated people.

She said: 'As she started losing weight she got more drastic until she was quite thin.

'The doctors thought she was anorexic. I know a lot of people thought she may have been doing it for attention because she got a lot more special treatment like being taken to her new school in a taxi. It seemed more of an attention thing than a disorder.'

Hoare added: 'She was very good at making people do what she wanted one way or another. She knew that with Anjie if she moaned enough she would get it.

'She knew how to work people, that kind of thing. Other people have made comments about Becky getting away with everything. That was my opinion - that she always got her own way all the time.'

Becky was reportedly taken out of her father's will just a week before she was killed.

Hoare told police: 'Anjie told me that Becky was out of the will. Darren had taken Becky out of the will because of the way she was behaving. It wasn't until she went missing that I asked if Becky knew ...Darren never told her.'

Prosecutors say that, at the time of the interview, Hoare knew that Becky's body had been cut up and had been hidden in a shed.

Hoare insists she had no knowledge of the killing. She denies murder, conspiracy to kidnap, perverting the course of justice, preventing burial of a corpse and possessing a prohibited weapon.
