Former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti was sent to one day judicial custody by a Delhi court on Sunday. Bharti, who is under arrest in a domestic violence case filed by his wife Lipika Mitra, was sent to judicial custody till Monday, October 5, by Dwarka court.

"All allegations against me are false. Truth will come out soon," Bharti told mediapersons while he was being taken to the court.

Bharti was arrested early on Tuesday morning, hours after he surrendered before the police on the direction of the Supreme Court. He was later presented before a Delhi court, which sent him to police custody.

The AAP MLA broke down during questioning when he was taken to his Dwarka residence where he came face to face with his wife in connection with the dowry harassment and attempt to murder case.

The police have also added Section 212 of the Indian Penal Code or IPC (harbouring offender) in the First Information Report (FIR) registered against Bharti, and said that so far they have identified five people who allegedly sheltered the legislator while he was on the run.

'I want to bring back peace and harmony'

In a letter written from police custody to Lipika through his lawyer, Bharti had expressed the wish to "amicably" settle the issues between them to "bring back peace and harmony" in the family in the larger interests of their children.

"I am extremely keen to resolve this matter by way of a mutually acceptable and amicable solution which brings peace and harmony and also greater understanding and to ensure that our children have a bright future," said the letter, a copy of which was submitted to the Supreme Court by Bharti's lawyer Gopal Subramaniam on Thursday.

Placing the letter on record, a bench of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice Amitava Roy issued a notice to Lipika asking her to remain present in the court at 10.30 am on Monday to explore the possibilities of mediation.
