Tottenham bus crash: Five people rushed to hospital after double-decker ploughs into railway bridge

More than 20 people were injured today after a bus crashed into a railway bridge in north London.

Fire crews, paramedics and police were called to St Loy’s Road in Tottenham just after 4am after the double-decker became wedged under the bridge.

Dramatic pictures taken by London Ambulance Service staff show the roof of the vehicle was cut away after three people were trapped.

Five people were taken to hospital while 26 pateints were treated at the scene, according to emergency services.

But no-one is believed to be seriously injured, police said.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “Two fire engines, a fire rescue unit and 15 firefighters were called to a collision involving a bus and a railway bridge on St Loy’s Road in Tottenham early this morning.

“Crews helped release three people who were trapped on the upper deck of a double-decker bus.

“Five passengers were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service and 21 people were treated at the scene.

“The brigade was called at 4.05am and the incident was over at 5.44am.”

Network Rail has been called to the scene.

The passengers were understood to be on a "Vault London" party bus when the crash happened.

The Standard has approached the company for a comment.

Transport for London confirmed the double-decker was privately-owned.

A police spokesman said: "Police were called to St Loy's Road at 4:10am after a bus was in collision with a bridge.

"London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London Fire Brigade was called to the scene.

"A number of people were treated at the scene by LAS for minor injuries but did not require hospital treatment.

"Two people were taken to an east London hospital. Their injuries are described as not life threatening and not life changing."

The bus was cleared by 1pm.
