Rajnath takes dig at previous UPA govt while making statement in LS over Gurdaspur attack
New Delhi, July 31 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday made a statement over the Gurdaspur attack in the Lok Sabha and said the term 'Hindu terrorists' coined by the previous UPA government has weakened India's stand on terrorism.
"I would like to ask everyone to remember how a new term of Hindu terror was invented to divert the attention a few years back. Even Pakistan applauded them. The term 'Hindu terrorists' coined by previous UPA government has weakened India's stand on terrorism," he said.
He said there will be zero tolerance in matters of terror acts.Reiterating government's stand on fighting against extremism, Rajnath said that the Narendra Modi government is committed to combat against terrorism.
"I want to assure the House that the government will do everything possible to prevent cross-border terrorism aimed against India," Singh said during his statement.
Singh also said the country should not stand divided on matters of terrorism.
This comes after 11 people were killed in the Gurdaspur terror attack which included 5 policemen and 3 civilians on Monday.
The gun battle in Punjab's Gurdaspur between the terrorists and security forces was held for nearly 12 hours on Monday. The terrorists were holed up in Dinanagar police station.
