Rajnath Singh announces Rs 4 lakh compensation for Assam flood victims

NEW DELHI: Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday conducted aerial survey of the flood-affected state of Assam to take stock of the situation.
Addressing a press conference after the survey, the minister announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victims of the flood. "The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for victims of the flood," he said.
Rajnath took stock of Kaziranga, Nagaon and Morigaon, some of the worst-affected areas in Assam.
Briefing media about the situation, Rajnath said that NDRF and SDRF teams are on the job and around 60 boats have been deployed for rescue operations. Describing the situation in the state as 'grim', he also appealed country's NGOs to come forward and help the victims.
Applauding the efforts of Sonowal government in Assam, Rajnath said, "It is heartwarming to see the government and other political representatives helping the rescue and relief operations in Assam.The CM and his team are doing well in managing the situation."
Singh on Saturday morning left for Assam to take take stock of the situation following heavy rain and floods.
Twenty six people have lost their lives and nearly 36 lakh have been affected across more than 3,300 villages in 28 districts in the state.
