CLEVELAND – The Fox 8 I-Team uncovered more about the mysterious death of a man who disappeared last year during a concert at Progressive Field.
What we have learned adds to the mystery around Cory Barron, who was later found dead in a landfill.
Cleveland police closed their case on the 22-year-old, who died after falling down a garbage chute at Progressive Field during a Jason Aldean concert last year.
Cleveland city prosecutors reviewed the case in July and ruled there is insufficient evidence that a criminal offense occurred.
But Barron’s family members have told Fox 8 they still have many questions, including how Cory would have gotten into the chute.
The I-Team obtained the closed police report and it indicates that Barron’s DNA was not found on the chute. The report also states there was blood found in a men’s bathroom floor that night, but the blood was not Barron’s.
Raising more questions, one woman told police she saw Barron in section 551, and she told police she thought he was having an argument with a few people, and when Barron left the area it appeared the people he was arguing with got up and started following him.
One friend of Cory’s told police she believed he was highly intoxicated but several others say he did not appear drunk. Receipts in the file state Cory purchased about 9 beers that evening.
“We have many unanswered questions,” said Matthew Barron, Cory’s father.
Civil Rights Attorney David Malik, who has handled many injury and death lawsuits, says he wonders why police and city lawyers kept the information contained in the file away from the family for so long.
And the family says they would like more of an investigation done on the case.
“What happened, they don’t know, we don’t know, but we are hoping someone out there knows something,” said Britta Baron, Cory’s sister.
