Education isn't all about getting the grades or qualifications.

It is also about inspiring creativity and other talents and qualities such as leadership, confidence and resilience.

And those initial colourful creations and imaginative efforts which showcase and promote what Cumbria's education and skills specialists have to offer are in line for recognition.

For the first time the Golden Apple Awards are recognising the "Best Marketing Campaign".
Education and skill sectors adopt a variety of methods and tools to attract prospective staff, students and employers.

From print, radio and television adverts to social media and digital marketing, award judges invite nominations which shed light on those creative initiatives that have met the needs of a training centre or education establishment.

Examples could include a school, college or training provider's recruitment campaign seeking staff or students or campaigns to promote new learning and training opportunities on offer in the county.

There could be marketing initiatives also which help people understand how new government policies may impact on them, for instance.

The Golden Apple Awards, sponsored by the University of Cumbria and Inspira, are brought to you by CN Group, which publishes the News & Star.

Bill McGowan, group marketing director for CN Group, said: "Great, innovative and engaging marketing campaigns are central to the overall success and profitability of any organisation.

"You can have the best product or service in the world but without successful marketing, customers will simply not be aware of what you can offer.

"Marketing is also integral to increasing brand awareness and reputation, which are important elements when an organisation is looking to recruit staff or offer training opportunities."
He added: "An organisation with a good reputation is more likely to be considered a great place to work or learn which will help with the recruitment of talent and high calibre learners."

Best Marketing Campaign is one of 20 Golden Apple Awards which will be presented this autumn.

Winners will be announced at a glittering event at The Cube, at the University of Cumbria’s Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle on October 6.

Anyone can put forward a nomination and it’s free to enter.

Awards for individuals, professionals, volunteers and community awards are available. Entries close on July 28. To enter go to www.gaawards.co.uk, email goldenapple@cnmedia.co.uk or call Megan Norwood on 01228 612231.
