Louisiana-Pacific expanding Thomasville mill, adding 20 jobs

Louisiana-Pacific Corp. announced Wednesday it will expand its Clarke County facility in Thomasville, adding 20 jobs by 2016.

Specifically, the Nashville-based wood building materials manufacturer will add a FlameBlock(r) Fire-Rated OSB Sheathing line with construction slated to begin in the third quarter of 2015 and conclude by September 2016.

Brad Southern, executive vice president of OSB, said the "substantial investment" will increase the company's ability to meet increasing market demand for fire-rated building products in the single-family, multi-family and light commercial construction markets.

"Our Clarke County mill was the clear choice for adding FlameBlock production because of the quality of the workforce there," Southern said, adding, "Geographically, manufacturing in Clarke County brings production closer to strong building markets including the Southwest, Southeast and the Mid-Atlantic."

The Clarke County facility currently employs 159 and produces 9- and 10-foot LP LongLength Sheathing that Southern said is often preferred for FlameBlock wall applications.

Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day worked with both the Clarke County Commission and Ken Muehlenfeld at the Alabama Department of Commerce to land the expansion.

"It's a vote of confidence in the positive business environment and quality of life in our community," Day said.
