ROXBURY – Support is growing for a GoFundMe campaign to help Christina Alecci Adamski, a 25-year-old biomedical engineer debilitated with chronic Lyme disease since last November.

To date, the effort, organized by the Roxbury High School Interact Club, a youth arm of the Rotary Club, has raised $15,622 toward the goal of $25,000—the amount needed to pay specialized, out-of-network medical costs.

Adamski, a graduate of Roxbury High School and Stevens Institute of Technology, also may have other tickborne coinfections, according to the GoFundMe site. She suffers with abdominal pain, back pain, seizures, and skin sensitivity so severe that she cannot tolerate a shirt touching her back.

Despite a two-month admission and other interventions in the traditional health care system, the site says, the care “is falling short.”

At this point, Adamski is unable to walk more than a few steps with assistance. She and her husband, Rich Adamski, have moved from their Ringwood home into her family’s home, along with their dog, Logan.

Last July, after a long absence on disability, according to the GoFundMe campaign, Adamski was released from her job at Stryker Orthopedics, where she made specialty instruments for hip and knee surgeries.

“This was a dream job for Christina,” the site reports, “because she loves helping people and she feels her role at Stryker really allows her to make a difference.”

The fund will allow Adamski to avail herself of specialized services from “Lyme-literate” doctors, whose expensive services are out of network but who have been successful in curing patients with similar symptoms. Additionally, Adamski plans to continue working with in-network doctors.
