India’s third largest IT services exporter Wipro will give a salary hike in an average range of 9.5% for its employees based in India and it will be 2% for those located in the developed markets effective June 1, 2016.
In a statement, Saurabh Govil, chief human resources officer, Wipro, said, “The average salary hike will be 9.5% for offshore employees and 2% for onsite employees, respectively. High performers will be rewarded with substantially higher increases in their compensation.”
The salary increase by Wipro is in line with its other peers – TCS and Infosys. TCS has stated that it would dole out a wage increase of 10% for FY17 while it is around 9% for Infosys.
During the quarter ended March 31, 2016 Wipro had made a net headcount addition of 2,248 people taking the total employee strength to 1,72,912.
The quarterly annualised voluntary attrition stood at 14.9% at the end of the fourth quarter of the fiscal.
The three million strong employee base of India’s IT industry has been witnessing an average salary increase in single digits over the last couple of years impacted by the overall slowdown in the sector.
