With Deputy Derek Geer’s funeral procession only two days away, the Grand Junction community is still showing an outpouring of support, including the manager at the local Office Depot, where he is giving out signs to the community for free so they can hold them up during the funeral procession.

"For the family to see visually, look, you've got an entire community standing with you," said Chris Riley, manager at Office Depot.

A community standing strong and united for a man who made the ultimate sacrifice, protecting our people.

Local residents, schools, and now businesses are all working to make sure Deputy Geer is always remembered.

"We work in this community and we live in this community. We are very much party of this community as somebody else and sometimes a business is not all about profits," said Riley.

Grand Junction residents are not hesitant to open their hearts and their wallets to give back to the family that gave so much to them.

"I'm taking my kids to the procession on Monday to show them that we support our officers. I want to hold the sign so that they know we are showing support, to not only the officers but also to the families,” said resident Amber Snoke.

"Officers haven’t had a lot of support recently just because of things happening in our country in general, so I think this does a lot for Grand Junction. Sometimes it takes a little shake up to bring the community together,” wife of a firefighter, Meghan Williams said.

As the funeral procession is expected to bring tons of community support, many members of the community want to reflect a positive attitude to all law enforcement.

"Nobody likes to get pulled over, nobody like a ticket but it’s critical that these people are doing their jobs every day. What a sacrifice to be willing to devote yourself to make sure the community stays safe. That, to me is an incredible duty and burden and I am glad they do it."

"I hope this brings a lot of attention to how important our officers are and that they are not our enemies,” Williams added.

Office Depot and Office Max locations will be giving away the signs throughout weekend until the procession on Monday morning. Visit the Office Depot at 2455 US-6 or the Office Max location at 925 Independent Ave to get a sign or make a donation for the family of Deputy Derek Geer.
