PGA Tour's stars happy for Tom Brady

Jordan Spieth and Tom Brady share a multi-million dollar relationship with Under Armour. Jason Day and Rory McIlroy run with different outfitters but they’re in the New England Patriot star’s corner as well.

Speaking before the start of the Duetsche Bank Championships, each of the three best golfers in the world welcomed Thursday’s news that Brady had beaten the National Football League in court and won’t have to miss any football games for the Patriots this fall.

McIlroy and Brady are close. They played in the same foursome at Augusta National earlier this year and the Irish star said he was looking forward to sending his friend a congratulatory text message.

“It was the right decision,” McIlroy said. “I’m very happy for him. He obviously felt he didn’t do anything wrong.”

Day, who is Australian but now lives in Ohio and calls Buckeye coach Urban Myer a friend, said while he didn’t follow Deflategate too closely, he knows what the news means to Patriots fans.

“To have Tom Brady come back and play, it's obviously exciting for everyone up here. It's going to be the talk of sports right now. As it should be,” he said. “It's going to be exciting to see how everything kind of goes for the New England Patriots for the first four games and beyond that.”

Like McIlroy, Spieth has spent time with Brady. Both are glamour stars for the Under Armour brand but the Texan is an intense Dallas Cowboys fan. He’s happy Brady is back not only for his friend but because the two teams will meet October 11.

“You always want to beat the best when they're playing the best,” Spieth said, “and so I think that the Cowboys are fully capable of beating the Patriots, whether they're in full strength or not.”
