GE Healthcare Wuxi still ‘nimble and growing’ at 20

May 23, 2016 -- Global Times -- GE Healthcare Wuxi Company celebrated its 20th anniversary and announced its "industry-university-research" strategic cooperation agreement with Wuxi People's Hospital in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province on May 20. Together they will work on personnel training, scientific research and clinical assessment with the goal of upgrading the healthcare system in China.

The team also announced that it has produced the 100,000th unit of LOGIQ F ultrasound devices. Designed for the primary healthcare market in China by the GE Healthcare Wuxi team, the machines are used in diverse fields within the sector, and their surpassing 100,000 units marks a significant milestone for the local manufacturing industry.

Through 20 years of commitment and hard work, GE Healthcare Wuxi has transformed from a simple product assembly plant to a diversified enterprise comprising seven product lines, a customer service center, a training center, global research and development capabilities, and advanced manufacturing.

GE Healthcare Wuxi and Wuxi People's Hospital will jointly focus on research, clinical assessment and multidisciplinary personnel training. Through this partnership, GE Healthcare Wuxi will gain an in-depth understanding of the diversified needs of Chinese hospitals in the areas of research, training, and clinical care. This partnership will allow GE Healthcare Wuxi to integrate advanced technologies with local research and development.

GE Healthcare Wuxi has an excellent research and development team comprising about 300 engineers. They work on innovative technology to develop world-class products. As of 2015, GE Healthcare Wuxi has invested more than one billion yuan ($150 million) in research, gaining 104 patents and developing 65 new products.

Yao Yong, the vice president of Wuxi People's Hospital, said the collaboration with GE Healthcare Wuxi was a strategic one. "They have many patents ranging from equipment assembly to self-innovation, and the newly-invented equipment needs clinical application and testing, [which we can provide]," Yao said. "Clinical application can also inspire further innovation."

GE Healthcare Wuxi has also established cooperations with nearly 300 local suppliers to achieve more than 90 percent of local procurement. Serving as a model for multinational companies in China, GE Healthcare Wuxi promotes the technological development and innovation capability of local suppliers.
