Chincoteague Island has been recognized by TripAdvisor as the place to go for an inexpensive fall trip.

This month the world’s largest travel website recognized the island on Virginia’s Eastern Shore as one of 23 affordable destinations for autumn vacation rentals.

Chincoteague was listed as having an average $682 per week fall vacation rental rate.

“Change the pace from big city beach resorts and head to Chincoteague Island this fall, where you’ll save more than any other Virginia vacation destination,” it reads in the August 3 web article. “No crowded boardwalks or traffic jams here, just unspoiled beauty and nature.”

Other prime fall getaways with vacation rentals that averaged under $700 a week were Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Venice, Florida and Mesa, Arizona.

Naples, Florida was listed as the cheapest fall rental destination with a $477 average weekly rate, while Rangeley, Maine was the highest with a $980 average weekly rate.

The announcement comes after TripAdvisor’s recognition of the Island Creamery on Chincoteague as one of the top 10 ice cream parlors in the United States. That list was released in July.
