WAUSAU — A Marathon County jail inmate who left the jail, removed his GPS and fled Wednesday has been found, according to police.

Authorities say 31-year-old Matthew Hornung left the jail Wednesday to attend a meeting. Shortly after leaving, he cut his GPS monitor off, police said.

Police received a report about 9:15 a.m. Thursday that a man matching Hornung's description was seen in a wooded area of Tribute Golf Course. After a brief police search, Hornung exited the wooded area and surrendered to Wausau Police officers.
