Texas Insurer Group Awards Scholarships to 27 Students

May 5, 2016

The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) Education Foundation recently awarded a total of $32,000 in academic scholarships to 27 insurance and risk management students at six Texas universities.

The students attend Huston-Tillotson University, Texas Southern University, the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of Houston Downtown and the University of Houston Main.

ICT began the program in 2002 as a way to help encourage more students to consider a career in the property and casualty industry, and develop the next generation of insurance professionals.

Since the program began, the Education Foundation has awarded more than $800,000 to 422 insurance and risk management students at 12 Texas universities.

All scholarship recipients have been invited to attend ICT’s 24th Annual Mid-Year Symposium, July 14, 2016, in Austin. In addition, scholarship recipients will be given a two-hour tour of the Texas Department of Insurance and will be able to participate in a Speed Interview and Networking Session where students will meet with various company representatives.

The 24th Annual Mid-Year Symposium will have approximately 300 insurance industry leaders in attendance to hear an update on the Texas marketplace and future trends impacting the business of insurance.

This event raises money for the Education Foundation as 100 percent of the Mid-Year Symposium corporate sponsorships, and company and individual donations are used for ICT scholarships and academic funding.
