Bankers Life's Kalamazoo office plants seed of hope through $7,024.85 donation to Alzheimer's Association

Bankers Life's Kalamazoo office, through its recent Bankers Life's Forget Me Not Days event, raised $7,024.85 for the Alzheimer's Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter.

Bankers Life is a national life and health insurance brand that focuses on the insurance needs of Americans who are near or in retirement.

Michael Reardon, regional director of Bankers Life's Kalamazoo branch sales office, led its associates, agents and their families, and local volunteers in the 13th annual street corner fundraising campaign. The Kalamazoo branch office has consistently been among the company's top 10 fundraisers.

"More than five million Americans, including more than 180,000 Michigan residents, live with Alzheimer's," said Reardon. "Bankers Life's Forget Me Not Days provides an opportunity for our associates and agents to rally the Kalamazoo community to raise funds and fight this devastating disease. We thank our community for their generous support."

The event is called Forget Me Not Days because in exchange for their donation, individuals receive packets of Forget-Me-Not flower seeds to take home and plant in honor of families across Michigan who are facing or have lost someone with Alzheimer's.

One hundred percent of the money collected during Bankers Life's Forget Me Not Days is donated to the Alzheimer's Association, the largest nonprofit funder for Alzheimer's research in the country.

"Alzheimer's disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States and the only one in the top 10 without any way to prevent it, cure it, or slow its progression," said Jennifer Howard, executive director of the Alzheimer's Association, Michigan Great Lakes Chapter. "That's why we are so pleased to have the support of community partners like Bankers Life, who are raising critical funds that will help provide care and support for families currently affected by this devastating disease, and will provide the research necessary to ultimately find a cure."

Nationally, this year's Bankers Life's Forget Me Not Days event raised just over $350,000 for the Alzheimer's Association, up slightly from what was collected last year. In addition, Bankers Life and its parent company CNO Financial Group recognized the Association on a national and chapter level with a $150,000 in corporate donations to aid in the support of the Association's mission.

Since 2003, Bankers Life's Forget Me Not Days has helped provide more than $4.1 million to the Alzheimer's Association.
