Check out these weird back-to-school breakfast contraptions (Tomorrow Daily 234)

On today's show, a whimsical inventor creates new ways to eat breakfast, and Khail and I discuss our favorite things at Pac Prime 2015. Tomorrow Daily. [MUSIC] Greetings, citizens of the internet, welcome to Tomorrow Daily, the best geek talk show in the known universe. I'm Ashley Equeda, joining me as always, hip boy, Khail Anonymous. It's time for the purge. I hope you're ready. [LAUGH] I'm actually a little freaked out by your visage today. The less I move, the more scary it is. That is actually really accurate. So, anyway. Anyway. Should we get right to it? I think we should talk about PAX Prime so let's hit the headlines. [MUSIC] All right. That's a terrifying mask. Look, I'm the biggest Fallout fan in the world, but even when I got that, I was like, well, probably not gonna wear that very often. [LAUGH] Yeah. I was scared to bring it to the airport. I think the airport was gonna stop me and be like, oh no no, you can't have this on the plane. [LAUGH] You're too scary. This is It's like Ted Kennedy stuff, you can't [CROSSTALK] OK,so, Pax Prime, which is a giant convention for gamers happened in Washington. There are several Paxes that happen in different places: East, Australia, all kinds. This is the big one, big Pax Prime! And you get the demo of a whole bunch of new games, which are incredibly far into the future, but some new games. And then also there's panels of your favorite YouTube celebrities, there's parties, it's just everything, it's a big celebration. Yeah, we discussed it, it was scaled into last week, and we discussed, basically, this is like the big connection to go to if you're a gamer, and you don't go to E3, or you can't go to E3. So I think there was 70,000 people, they said. That was like, the estimate of attendees, so it was a huge show. Some homeless guy told me it was 100,000. I- But he also, you know, Maybe he, I don't know. thought that pigeons were trying to kill him. Which is almost true. That also maybe true. Some of the stuff you saw at the show that you really liked. What was like, I mean What did you enjoy the most? I had already seen all that stuff at E3, so for me it wasn't really the floor. I went to go check out the, they have a room where you can rent any console and any game and just hang out and play with your friends or whatever. So played Smash Brothers. The only new thing I checked out What's this called, Dog Sniffing Butts, or something like that? Do we have a photo of it? I think we have a picture of this. Isn't it like pug something? Yeah, Pug Sniffing Butts. **** Sniffing Pugs. Okay. **** Sniffing Pugs, that's it! Yeah, there it is. So there's **** Sniffing Pugs. [LAUGH] And the controller, it has a **** on there too, a dog ****. I don't get it. That's really weird. I didn't get it. I didn't get it. Even after playing it, I still don't know what the rules were or how to play it. Looks like you were doing it right. They're trying to get it kick started. I still don't get it. I wouldn't recommend it, but maybe they'll figure it out. Yeah. Well, I guess I'll save it for the end, but I actually have a video of [INAUDIBLE] Oh that's right. Yeah. Really informative I thought. > I thought we, I remember us saying a lot more interesting stuff than that. Do you? > I thought it was like a five minute breakdown. [INAUDIBLE] What gaming industry was moving into the 22nd century. Yeah, no, I mean I do remember that, I just, that was the fun part of the video, I thought. Can I tell you what I liked about PAX. No, what's your second story? My second story? Well no, I wanted to talk about PAX, Khail, no. You're not going to take this away from me. I had a really great time. First of all, I've never been to PAX Prime. This is why I was very excited about it. I've been to other PAX. PAXi? PAXes? And I really liked, obviously, the indie games are a lot. I'm very surprised by that because at E3 this year, well, at E3 this year, almost all flagship games, like the indie The indie scene at E3 is very small because of all the major titles that are gonna drop this year. Yeah. That would be completely in the dark. Yeah, and so, I really liked about PAC, they had, not only did they have indie mega booth, which was it's own big thing, they also had, upstairs, a whole other expo hall full of independent tabletop gaming developers, which. It's kind of odd to me, because I always considered sort of table-top gaming to be an indie thing. So to see that industry kind of start splitting off to major developers now, because it's exploded so much in the last few years. That was really cool. And then I really liked, there was a game called Gangby, which I've never seen before until this weekend. You're like these weird jello people, and you're put in precarious situations. You just fight each other. Like it's really random. [LAUGH] And it's so silly, but it's also hilarious. And there were huge crowds A round of this game in [UNKNOWN]. And they were just laughing and cheering for the people playing. People are just really excited about this game. So it made me stop. And I watched it and it was- But it's confusing looking. Super confusing looking. I didn't even get my hands- That's fine. On it. I just enjoyed watching other people play it. And then I also really liked Party Hard, which is that sort of 8-bit game. Your neighbors have a party at 3 AM, it's really, really loud. So you do what any normal person would do, which is you decide to go over next door and kill everybody. So they have, you've got a certain number of people partying in these houses and everything, and then you have to take them out. But it's a puzzle game? Yeah, it's like a weird puzzle game. And there's different ways to evade, and it's very strange, but also very fun. And funny like I enjoy that very much and then the cosplay was really great. And what was the last thing I have been doing? Heres some of the cosplay that we saw after the show. There are some really good Destiny cosplay downstairs. Oh really? Like amazing Destiny cosplay that I saw some really great stuff. More then ever I saw Fallout Cosplays. There's a lot of people in vault jumpsuits. Yes. But good ones, because I've been to several conventions and nobody gives a crap about how hard they work. There, look. Yeah. About how hard they work on like the yellow part. They never seem to get that right, but I ran into that bear Story Three times! That bear I ran into while I was leaving the bar, and it was just like- And even just hanging around? But then, because the person inside didn't talk, he kind of just like turned and then turned around and walked away. Yeah that guy! And then at another point, what was the other point? I was walking by another booth and he was there and I was like, hey what's up bear? And he turned all the way around to look at me. And then turned away again. So, now I'm afraid he followed me back to Pax like the ghost from the haunted mansion. I kinda love that so much, he followed you home. And the last thing that I really like, which I don't know. I'm sure I. I think you've done at Comic-Con, which is the HTC Vive demo. Oh you did. Which I have not tried. I haven't actually. I had time to go and check out the Vive. And it was, first of all, amazing, two, mind-blowing, three, controllers, A++. Really impressive stuff that they have going on over at HTC and Valve. They, it was a, I want to say like 8 demos, or maybe 10, there was your favorite, light painting. You could paint. I love light painting. The controllers we wemote, so you hold them in your hand, and they have triggers on then, but then instead of What am I thinking of? Instead of like thumbsticks- Joysticks? Yeah, thumbsticks. They have touchpads, circular touchpads. Aw, nice. And you can move things around. And I was like, I did a cooking thing, and then I did, it reminded me so much of the things that we talk about on the show, but in demo. So, I did like a cooking thing, I was in a sunken ship and a whale went by. I was in a DOTA, that wizard's hut, and then I was able to make myself really, really tiny and check out different parts of the hut. And then the last thing was the Aperture Robot Repair Lab, which is- Oh, you go to do that? I go to do that and it was amazing. And when GLaDOS came down And called me a sack of ham. Like I really literally squealed in glee. I was just like! Wow. It evoked so much emotion when you cried. That's really cool, wow. It was awesome, it was really cool. So that was packed, that was great. But the vibe experience I think for me was That's the best head that you've tried? Best thing. You know, I haven't tried oculus touch, so I feel weird comparing the two. Because now that oculus touch exists and there is a control scheme, I would be hesitant to say it's the best out of the three. Okay. But so far, that is the best experience I've had. And I was able to see a lot more of like, these sort of like, what a triple A Would look like. Because that was literally like being in Portal. Which was pretty cool. Pretty amazing. All right guys, let me talk about one more story really quick. And then we'll jump to break. We only did two stories today. There was a guy, Khail. His name is Dominic Wilcox. He is a little bit weird. A little bit of an eccentric man. He invents crazy, wacky things that are kind of whimsical. And Kellogg's, the cereal maker, decided to hit him up and say, hey we know that some people today are going back to school. Or, you know, around this time go back to school. I have young kids. So can you make us some really weird breakfast inventions? And he's like yeah, of course I can. So that's exactly what he did. So here is the Cereal Killer Cafe, [LAUGH] where they have a bunch of cereal. They unveiled this and he made six very kind of Pee-wee Playhouse-esque designs. That's what it reminds me of. There's a soggy-o-meter that lets you know when your cereal wont be crunchy anymore. An amplified bowl that make your cereal noises really loud. This is the drone delivery system for your cereal, or your umbrella. This is the soggy-o-meter right here. So you put your milk in and it tells you when it gets less and less soggy. There's this which is amazing. It's a little helmet with a crane that is powered by you, and you can serve yourself cereal. A little robotic spoon that wakes up with you as you eat your cereal. An amplifier that makes your stomach growls really, really loud, which is that tuba that he's wearing right there. Like tuba with a bowl on the end of it And then, he mentioned a watch, but it wasn't in this video. So I'm not really sure what that was. But super super silly stuff, but hilarious. And he has a lot of repurposed material, but for the crane, specifically, he actually 3D printed and laser cut a lot of the pieces. Oh wow. Yeah, he custom-designed this whole thing, and sort of figured it out. It's actually a really great video. It's fun to watch. Can I just say that the cast, like, is the perfect actors and actresses for this? You see all these gigantic expressions and vibrant colors, and they had a redhead, and you know, Well done, all the way around. Super well done. It looks fun. Super well done. And he joked that in 50 years time, he was like, well everyone's gonna have a cereal crane helmet and a robotic spoon, no doubt. No doubt about it like he just, so. It's very funny, very tongue in cheek cool. But I figured that would bring us to our hashtag of the day. Which would be TDBreakfast. What amazing weird breakfast tech can you think of? Like come up with something really great. I mean he already took six of the greats. Obviously. But, I have a feeling for me it would be something along the lines of Something with eggs, like scrambled eggs or something. Something that's very Back to the Future-esque, where it's like the alarm clock bakes all my breakfast and eggs, like, that's what I would want.>> Mine is, I think it would have to be like some sort of like Like bacon gloves or something? So that on the drive on the way to work I can just eat my gloves, and by the time I get to work, the gloves are all gone. My hand are greasy. You just wash your hands, and then you're good to go. But still, that's stage two, we're still at Kickstarter. The 1.0, it's 1.0. $500 gets you the bacon gloves. Amazing. One pair of bacon gloves. Perfect. I'm in. Backing 100% Alright, guys. It's Monday, which means we like to talk about crowd funding, and specific projects that catch our eye for better or for worse. This is Back it or Hack it. I may have actually chose this one because of its ridiculous-ness as opposed to like something like oh I have to have that. This is actually kind of weird.- You kind of run the gambit of which ones you chose. I never know what to expect what this one is about.- I think that this one. I actually really want your opinion on this because I don't really know how your going to respond. Easy baking gloves. No. Okay, that's good for me, because I still got my product, okay. I was just saying, nobody has stolen your idea thus far that I've seen. This is called the GinzVelo, and there it is. It looks like a little car, but it is actually [UNKNOWN] Powered by you. It's an advanced tricycle with a shell on top. Mm-hm. Okay, so there he is riding about. Mm. Here's the interesting thing about this little vehicle which they're calling a Human Electric Hybrid, because as the Moniker would suggest. There is a 500 watt motor, and a 48 Volt battery so it's an electric vehicle as well as a bicycle. And they're saying that the size and function of it still makes it a bike, so you can use bike lanes. You don't have to ride this in the road, but you could if you wanted to. As long as it was legal to ride your bike in the road. And then also, they said 75 to 100-mile range with this thing, and it can get up to 20 miles an hour without much of an effort because it's an electric vehicle as well as a bicycle. Ok. So you can go 20 miles an hour, which is a standard speed on a side street or something like that. A little, I think they were also saying it could get up to 30 miles per hour, but 75 to 100 miles on average if you're riding about 20 miles per hour. On a single charge. It's lightweight enough to pedal without a whole bunch of extra weight, feeling the extra weight on you. I think the whole shell weighs like 85 pounds. It's pretty lightweight. It obviously keeps you dry. You can put some From grocery bags or a bag pack in the back there. And then, it uses, this is the thing that I though was really interesting, it uses regular bike parts. So, if it breaks, you don't have to like special order a piece, you just go down to a bicycle repair shop and you can repair it. Okay. Which I, I thought was a very big plus for this, something like this. It has headlights, brake lights, turn signal lights, and they want only $50,000. Okay to manufacture some of these. Oh wait, in total? Total. That's what they want. Okay. That's the goal. And they have about 23 days left, and they have raised just over $6,000. So, they're about a tenth of the way there. A little over a tenth of the way there. So, how much would you pay for this? Now, mind you all, you have to buy that bike too cuz it's a specialized trike. There are two kinds of compatible trikes that work with this and if you have them, it's about half price. So, how much would you pay for this if you didn't have the trike? I live in LA. Well if you lived in a place where there were bicycles, Where I could bike around? Yes. [LAUGH] [UNKNOWN] take it to work. I paid about 700 for my bike, which is a really good bike. So I'm gonna say, 1000, maybe 1200 at the most. Okay well your going to be surprised by this it is 6,000 dollars for one bike. For one Gizfelo.- Without the bike?- No, with the bike.- No, like 3,000 if you just, if you already have the trike. The two, one of the two compatible trikes. This does go faster than a bike though. It does. And so it's electric. And it literally has like a 75 to 100 mile range. Which to be fair, I mean- But you can buy an electric bike. If you had a bike, you could bike 100 miles. For maybe, I think the most I've ever seen one was two grand. I want to say like 1,500 to two grand. I don't know. Like three times that cost, and you look like you're floating on an egg. No. You look like you're in a space egg. They mentioned in the video that you get a lot of public interest in it, and they talked about major advertisers wanting to get Advertise on the sides of these things, maybe we'll see them at ComicCon next year. Like as little like petty- No, it gets in the way. It's just a big giant. [CROSSTALK] They're even like, it rode by the bike thing. It's like look, then it rode by a bike. I was like no, you can lock your bike up there. Yeah, where are you going, how're you going to lock it? That's a good question. Yeah. We had a Egg. I guess somebody really couldn't like run off with it. Yeah, yeah. I don't know. Yeah, but even if I rode it to work, where do I put my egg? yeah, where do you park your egg? That's true. I could use a parking space. But yeah, it's kinda odd like I just thought it sounds really interesting. Basically, what I am trying to tell you is, I back it. You're in. I'm out. I say i say no but that's because I just look at it and I think of the App Terra? I don't know if you remember this it was a three wheeled car and it looked like a rounded paper plane egg and it was supposed to be 30 grand it was supposed to be amazing and I was really exciting about it and it ended up being a big disappointment.- Logan would you back this?- No.- No? not at all. He does love eggs though, that's what I thought. That's true, if you love eggs this might be a great choice for you. If you love bikes and eggs future this is a great option. Aside from that let's let's talk about our very last bit of the show which is you guys. It's time for here's your feedback. Murugan writes in and says I would love to see a death star and trisaber, rolling c3po, ha ha ha, basically I want to see the full 18 hours. Like he is just excited to watch the whole live stream. Wants a Death Star toy. Mm-hm. I wonder if you had a smaller to scale Death Star, if it could blow up something little, like if it was equal scale. Blow up something a little bigger. A lot of toys. Eighteen hours is a lot of toys. Well, and each light, each in boxing, it almost, I think it's almost an hour long There's 14 unboxers. A good unboxing- So are they each gonna unbox like ten things? So like one toy I could see you max out at like ten. Yeah. Cuz you like look at the box. Open it up. They always like appreciate the box. They're like, oh look how well laid it is. Here's stuff on the back. Here's other stuff. Then they unbox it. Then they kind of Check it out and then use the little. So maybe ten minutes each. So yeah, that's like five or six toys on average. That's a lot. And then lastly, Dustin wrote us an email and said, now you all are making me feel nostalgic. I do not wanna see a specific toy since I am sure it will all be made at some point. But I would love to see the magic of the toy stores of the 80s brought back. This is great. I like this He sent in this picture. Sent a few pictures. Said back then, everything was not at your fingertips. You had to search to find stuff and often found lots of fun surprises since we did not have access to the internet and could research the store's entire inventory online prior to a visit. You constantly found lots of cool stuff that your parents said no to. LOL. I would like my stepson to be able to experience that magic instead of just shopping online or going to big box stores. Don't get me wrong I'm an IT guy and I love technology, after all it's how I make my living, but sometimes as things change they can take away from the magic of the past that can never be brought back. P.S. My favorite all time toy was my Yoda action figure. He had a cloak, a snake, and his staff and light saber. That was a lot of accessories to play with, most just had a blast or a light saber. So there you go. He wants the magic of old box toys. Why did he come with a snake? I'm not sure. I'm not sure. Maybe it was a stick. Maybe it was a typo. That makes sense, but still. Within its staff, so that also wouldn't be it. So maybe it's a snake from [UNKNOWN]. A poisonous snake from [UNKNOWN]. Just a [INAUDIBLE] snake. Hey, remember the scene with the snake? Listen, it was the 70s, and people were crazy. Toy designers may have gone a little overboard back then. Merchandising was such a new thing in the lat 70s, early 80s. Come on. Alright, time for our very last piece of user feedback, time for our, "Phonetographer", of the day. I think you'll like this picture, Remmick sent it to us. He said, Hi, guys. I took this with my One Plus One whilst on my holiday to Poland. Love the show. And I like that it just, it looks so tiny. I love the tilt shift in this, it's perfect. Man, the One Plus Ones are really kicking **** on this show. It really is. People, I don't want to say, are too most submitted Phones are iPhone 6, or 6Plus and the OnePlus One, those are like the two most submitted and most chosen, I would say, because of the quality. Really good, I don't know if there's a correlation between, People buying high quality smartphone cameras and understanding how to take good pictures, or if those cameras on those smartphones inherently take better pictures and therefore make the phonetographer better. > Or, most of their pictures are terrible, so they take more pictures therefore the have better pictures. Get more and have better pictures. That's also > That's just playing devil's advocate. No, that's also a really good point, it could just be statistically they take more pictures therefor they get more better pictures. More better? They get better pictures more often. There you go.
