Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a global organization that funds Type 1 diabetes research, recently announced the appointment of Kristin Percy, Marblehead resident and early childhood evaluation team leader with the Revere Public Schools, as event and family team chair for the JDRF One Walk Boston.

In these roles, Percy will be responsible for engaging the Type 1 diabetes community in the organization’s mission, providing peer-to-peer fundraising and team-building guidance to new and returning teams and helping to create an event day experience that is fun and family-oriented.

More than 10,000 advocates representing local businesses, families, schools and other organizations are expected to participate in JDRF One Walk in Boston on Oct. 3 at the Department of Conservation and Recreation Hatch Shell, 47 David G. Mugar Highway. The 5K walk aims to raise money for Type 1 diabetes research and will include music, children’s activities, food and more.

In addition to her role with One Walk, Percy was recognized as the New England chapter’s “2015 Volunteer of the Year” and jointed the chapter’s board of directors in July.

“I walk to show my daughter, Kathryn, that she is not the only one fighting this disease and to make her aware of all the people who are walking to help JDRF turn ‘Type One into Type None,’” said Percy, who participates in the walk each year with her team Kitty’s Kool Kats.
