Fife’s local heroes will be honoured tonight at an awards ceremony in Glenrothes.

Months of hard work will reach their conclusion when the Kingdom FM Local Hero Awards, now in their eighth year, are held at the Rothes Halls.

Around 300 guests are expected to attend the ceremony which celebrates the inspirational work of some of Fife’s unsung heroes and the best of the kingdom of Fife.

The 17 award categories include best carer, best sportsperson, best community group or initiative, best student apprentice and best school.

The event is co-sponsored by The Courier, and full coverage of the awards will feature in Saturday’s edition of the paper.

The other main sponsors are FMC Technologies, Owen Buchanan Builders Limited, Forth Ports, DPS Group, Fife Cultural Trust and the Purvis Group.

Bob Garmory, director of Robert Purvis Plant Hire, said: “As a large, Fife-based company who employ the vast majority of our workforce from Fife, we understand the benefits that are gained through having strong communities where our employees and their families live.

“All of the Kingdom FM Local Heroes being recognised at this event do so much to help those in our communities who require support in dealing with the challenges they face.”

James Robb, operations manager, FMC Technologies, Dunfermline, said: “As a global organisation we live by a set of core values that guide and articulate our principles and beliefs.

“Supporting the Kingdom FM Local Hero Awards for the fifth consecutive year is a way for our organisation to engage with and support our local community, while sharing and demonstrating our beliefs.”

Colin Millar, director at DPS Group, said: “We are very proud to support the Kingdom FM Local Hero Awards because we recognise the importance of the community in which we live and work.”

Owen Buchanan, managing director, Owen Buchanan Builders Limited, said: “We support the Kingdom FM Local Hero Awards because it acknowledges the good work done for the people of Fife.

“These individuals/groups maybe wouldn’t be praised/awarded for their hard work if it wasn’t for the awards.”

Laurie Piper, head of external relations for Fife Cultural Trust, said: “Fife Cultural Trust’s mission is to enrich lives in Fife.

“We are proud to support Kingdom FM’s Local Hero Awards because they recognise the significant contribution individuals, businesses and organisations make towards this aim every day of the year, in communities across the kingdom.”
