Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date rumors: 2016 or 2017 still not confirmed

The new Surface Pro 5 is said to possess some amazingly upgraded features. Interestingly, the possible release dates for the new device are closely interlinked with the various new specs that the Pro 5 is being credited with. One of the most logical conclusions that Windows and Microsoft devotees have arrived at is that since the older version, Surface Pro 4, had been launched in October last year, it is largely unlikely that the upcoming model will make its debut before the cursory 12-month period lapses. This means an October 2016 release is the earliest possible date.

PC Advisorhas another theory in its archives. Microsoft is supposedly scheduling the release of the second installment of the Windows 10 update for early next year. The Surface Pro 5 is rumored to be preinstalled with the latest version of the OS, titled Redstone 2, or RS2. Putting two and two together, Microsoft will probably wait until the OS update to make its new Surface device available.

An added advantage that a 2017 release brings with it is that the makers of the device will have more time to sort out any bugs and issues that may be present. After all, it is a well-known and oft-brought up subject that the Pro 4 launched with unsorted problems.

Among its many possible specs is a rechargeable stylus and dock. The Microsoft patent reads, "As a stylus may be easily misplaced due to the typical size and shape of the stylus, the stylus charger may take the form of a dock that holds the stylus in a particular location during charging and/or while the stylus is not being used."

The Surface Pro 5 is also said to sport the new Kaby Lake processors. Apple Insider recently reported that Intel had begun shipping the processor chips to manufacturers. One of the key reasons that the Pro 5 was delayed was because Microsoft was hell bent on using these processors this time around. Now that they have their hands on the chips, the manufacturers of the Surface device may announce an official release date in the foreseeable future.
