Shoplifting at Kohl's in Orange, Leads to Suspects Fleeing and an Accident: Police

Orange police say a shoplifting incident quickly escalated and led to two New Haven residents being charged in West Haven.

Orange police officers responded to the Kohl’s store at 250 Bull Hill Lane for a reported shoplifting.

Officers learned that Miguel Colon, 35, of Washington Avenue and Jose Pinto, 38, of Howard Avenue in New Haven had allegedly taken $363.90 worth of electronics from the store without paying, police said.

When officers attempted to stop one of the arrestees outside the Kohl’s store, he jumped into a waiting vehicle which then fled into West Haven, police said. Officers lost sight of the arrestees after they left Kohl’s, police said.

While in West Haven, the arrestees were involved in a vehicle crash, and Orange officers were able to respond to to the accident scene and take them into custody for the Orange incident.

Colon and Pinto were each charged with larceny, interfering with an officer and Colon is charged with numerous motor vehicle violations.
