The UMPI softball team's road trip got off to a rough start. The Owls were in between games getting a quick bite to eat on Saturday in the Bronx and in just 10 minutes the team's bus got broken into and many personal items were stolen. Sara Packard is a player on the team and she lost quite a bit.

"From me they stole my softball bag. So my glove, my cleats, my uniform, sunglasses, all that stuff. They also stole my school bag. So all my schoolwork, the laptop I was borrowing from the University, an iPad. So just a lot of electronics and stuff of that nature," Packard said.

The door on the bus had to get fixed so the team canceled it's games in Pennsylvania today. Head coach Sara Shaw says three players had equipment stolen and they were able to replace it so they could play tomorrow.

"We had to go to Dick's Sporting Goods and buy a large amount of stuff to replace that with after the girls decided we don't want this to impact our trip. We want to continue playing, we don't want to go home. We said okay we need the equipment to do that so we bought some new gloves so we could keep playing," Shaw said.

Packard said it was nice to see everyone come together in a time of need and pick each other up. Shaw added that the Owls showed some mental toughness by not letting that ruin what they came to do and that is play softball. UMPI is back in action Tuesday against Southern Virginia.
