Accra, July 30, GNA - Unilever Ghana, has announced the third edition of its Idea Trophy Competition, a global business competition aimed at creating an out of the classroom learning experience for undergraduate students.

The competition provides students an opportunity to work on real-life business challenges, while developing their skills and competencies.

A statement signed by Mr Gabriel Opoku-Asare, the Head of Corporate Affairs, Unilever Ghana to the Ghana News Agency on Wednesday said the competition's first launch in Ghana three years was driven by the Close-Up brand.

It said the Close-Up Giants team from Ashesi University took home the grand prize and represented Africa at the Future Leaders League global competition, where they placed fourth.

It said the second edition was delivered on a fantastic comeback championed by the Lifebuoy brand, helping millions to improve on hygiene and eliminate childhood diseases.

"It ended with the Triple Success Team of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology emerging as the winner,' it added.

The statement said this year's competition was a developmental process seeking to unearth entrepreneurial capabilities among students.

It said this year's brand partner was Rexona, and associated with the Rexona 'Do More' Campaign.

The competition would be in four phases, the first phase is the online application, where students apply through the Unilever Africa IdeaTrophy website.

The second phase would be the U-Camp; a two day camp focused on equipping students with an understanding of the Unilever brand.

It said students would be split into teams of three and work as business managers to develop their ideas into business ventures.

The focus would be on the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan and how they would deliver sustainable growth through the Rexona brand.

The third phase would also reveal the country winner, who would then move into another competitive hurdle with winners from other African countries in South Africa for the Africa Idea Trophy Competition.

This would then move into the final stage, where the winner of Unilever Africa Idea Trophy competition would be crowned as a full representative of Africa in the global Future Leaders League challenge.

The statement said the competition would give students the experience of working on a real business challenge in a multinational company, work with creative agencies in bringing ideas to life, mentorship from experienced business leaders, as well as access to resource toolkit and problem-solving frameworks.

'It will also give them travel opportunities, exciting prizes and networking opportunities with students from other parts of Africa and the opportunity to get accepted for the Unilever Leadership Internship Programme, 2016,' it added.
