A dilapidated building in west Greeley, which has sat empty for half a decade, may soon find new life.

PDC Energy is looking to buy and revamp the old AT&T building, 8750 20th St., west of 83rd Avenue.

PDC is an independent oil and natural gas exploration and production company that operates within the Wattenberg oil field in Colorado. The company is headquartered in Denver, with an Evans location.

“PDC would like to relocate their facility from Evans into Greeley,” said City Planner Paul Whalen. “They’re trying to buy it and turn it into their headquarters.”

The company is working with current property owner Bates Leasing Company LTD, of Denver, to purchase the 8.84-acre lot.

The property includes a 61,472-square-foot office building, which has two stories with garage and warehouse space, according to city planning documents. There would be remodeling and updating before PDC moved employees into the building.

“The layout is going to remain pretty much as it is,” Whalen said. “They’re just going to take it and … restore the site to where it’s actually usable.”

AT&T moved out more than five years ago, and the building has remained empty, leaving it to fall into disrepair.

“(PDC) is going to improve that building and restore that site to make it a respectable site in the community,” Whalen said.

Documents say the company plans to relocate 160 staff members and contractors from their Evans location to the new building after making updates.

Whalen said they have a purchasing condition that the building must be incorporated into Greeley city limits. They also will need to change zoning and get the plan through the planning commission and the city council.

“We’re working right now to deal with the site plan and then deal with the zoning,” Whalen said. “Hopefully we can be successful and get them through the process.”
