Southeastern Connecticut SCORE Welcomes Two New Talents and Kicks Off Fall Membership Drive

Local business executives join SCORE to provide mentoring for entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Old Saybrook, CT -- SCORE, a national non-profit volunteer organization and resources partner of the Small Business Administration (SBA), was established 50 years ago and offers a wide variety of free business building services and tools, including one-on-one mentoring, educational seminars and workshops.

Kicking off its annual fall membership campaign to recruit new volunteers, the Southeast CT chapter of SCORE recently added two new members with broad backgrounds of business experience and skills to help more clients in the region.

Edward J. Murphy has a passion for helping people by using his business career experience in sales, marketing and manufacturing operations. He holds degrees in both economics and computer science, earning his BS at Villanova University and MBA at George Washington University. He held senior management positions at ITT, Emerson Electric, KABA, a Swiss conglomerate, and IMI Cornelius, a U.K. conglomerate. Most recently he was Vice President and General Manager for Wilshire Corp., a division of IMI Cornelius, a Torrington, CT manufacturer of beverage dispensers sold to Coca Cola and Pepsico. He currently has his own consulting practice, and in addition to SCORE, does volunteer work with the Veterans Administration and Big Brothers. Ed mentors SCORE clients in both Waterford CT and Westerly RI, where he lives.

Tom Gezo is an experienced executive and Certified Project Management professional with a strong track record of innovation in global business with a key focus on “getting things done.” A scientist by training, he holds multiple educational degrees including a BS in Chemistry from Bucknell, MS in Biochemistry, NY Medical, and Masters Certificates in Project Management from George Washington and Stanford Universities. He held senior management roles at Dassault Systemes Americas and IBM. Most recently he launched TGBC, a Business Consulting practice anchored in Project Management. Tom joined SCORE in July 2015 and has accepted a leadership role in helping build the chapter’s social media presence in addition to completing his SCORE Mentor Certification. He lives in Old Saybrook, CT.

Bob Potter, Chair of Southeastern Connecticut SCORE, stated, “We’re delighted to welcome Ed Murphy and Tom Gezo to SCORE. They bring diverse business experiences, great energy and a true commitment to helping others succeed in business.”

Mr. Potter added, “Volunteers are valued at SCORE and we welcome currently working as well as retired executives. We’re also seeking bi-lingual volunteers to help us better serve the growing Latino population in Southeastern CT.
