COLUMBUS, Ga., U.S., and FRANKFURT, Germany, 30 November, 2015 - TSYS (NYSE: TSS) has today published its inaugural German M-Payments Consumer Research Report. This report includes information on key consumer m-payment preferences and insights on a range of popular industry topics.

TSYS conducted quantitative research from more than 500 German consumers, covering diverse demographics, including gender, age and income. The respondents were over the age of 17, had at least one debit card and one credit card, as well as a mobile phone.

'Our research has shown that German consumers expect in-store m-payments - those made at physical, bricks and mortar stores with mobile phones - to be an integral part of their shopping in few years,' said Davide Richetta, German business expansion, TSYS International. 'In line with TSYS' belief in people-centered payments, we continue to research how consumers' payment choices are changing and this report provides some insight into the growing importance of m-payments in Germany.'

Key findings from the research include the following:

  • More than sixty-nine percent of respondents expressed interest in using m-payments online if security and fraud protection of their personal information were guaranteed by their financial institution.
  • Seventy-four percent of respondents do not think security is a benefit when using m-payments in-store.
  • Sixty-nine percent of the respondents are likely to use m-payments for in-store purchases in the next two years.
  • Bank branches are still the preferred channel over an m-banking app for the German consumer.
