Amy Schumer in plastic would've been so fantastic, but alas, it was not written in the stars visible from the Barbie Pop-Up Camper. Variety and and E! report that the comedian has had to back away from Sony's live-action movie due to issues with scheduling.

Schumer called out critics who slammed her potential casting as Barbie in an upcoming live-action film based on the Mattel doll. “Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,” Schumer shared with Varietyin a statement. “The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”

Variety reports that film production was expected to begin in late June, which conflicted with Schumer's promotional tour for Snatched, in which she plays Goldie Hawn's daughter, and obligations for She Came to Me, which also stars Nicole Kidman and Steve Carell.

In December, USA TODAY confirmed that the star was in talks to play the Mattel doll, which didn't please Internet critics who targeted Schumer, armed with comments about her weight.

She shot back on Instagram, writing a length caption for a photo of herself in a one-piece bathing suit. "Very very honored to be nominated for 2 Grammys and to be considered to play an important and evolving icon," stated Schumer. "Is it fat shaming if you know you're not fat and have zero shame in your game? I don't think so. I am strong and proud of how I live my life and say what I mean and fight for what I believe in and I have a blast doing it with the people I love. Where's the shame? It's not there."

Schumer's rep has not responded to USA TODAY's request for comment.
