Natalie Maines Hints That the Dixie Chicks ‘Will Tour the States Again’

Fresh off the announcement that the Dixie Chicks are headed to Europe for a tour in 2016, lead singer Natalie Maines is hinting that a United States Tour might be in the works as well.

On Twitter, a fan asked Maines if the award-winning trio will "ever tour in the United States again? Are you ready to play nice yet?" Maines replied, "I'll never make nice, but I will tour the states again."

Maines doesn't specifically say whether she meant that she would tour as a solo artist or as part of the Dixie Chicks, but the group, who also toured Europe in 2014 on their Long Time Gone Tour, has previously said that they're not sure if they'd be welcome to perform on American soil, given the response after Maines' comments about then-President George W. Bush in 2003.

“I feel like we are tainted,” Maines has said. “I don’t know if we put a tour up, if people would come.”

In March of 2003, as the U.S. was preparing to invade Iraq, Maines famously said, during a concert in London, "Just so you know, we're on the good side with y'all. We do not want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."

The backlash from the country music community was swift and unapologetic, with radio stations banning the Chicks' music and several artists, including Reba McEntire and Toby Keith, publicly speaking out against the threesome.

In December, fellow bandmates Martie Maguire and Emily Robison signed a publishing deal, while Maines recently recorded a duet with Robert Earl Keen, “Wayfaring Stranger,” for his 2015 album, Happy Prisoner.

New tour information will be posted on the Dixie Chicks' website as it is announced.
