A McDonalds worker has been racially abused by a customer.

Police are treating the incident, which happened at the restaurant on Grainger Street in Newcastle, as a ‘hate crime’.

And officers investigating the abuse have now released CCTV images of a woman they would like to speak to.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At around 6.30pm on Monday, March 26, a staff member in McDonalds on Grainger Street tried to intervene in a dispute between a group of people.

“During the incident the male staff member was racially abused by one of the customers.

“Officers were called but the person who shouted the abuse had already left the restaurant by the time they arrived.

“Inquiries to identify those responsible are ongoing and now police have released an image of a woman they want to speak to.

“She was in the area at the time and may be able to help officers with their investigation.”

The woman, or anyone who recognises her, is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting ref 38690L/18 or email 2471@northumbria.pnn.police.uk .
