11/18/2015 7:47:00 AM | Football

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Orange football program will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the New York's College Classic at MetLife Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016. It will be the fourth game for the Orange at MetLife since the agreement with the stadium was set in 2009. Syracuse's history at MetLife includes a 2012 game against USC, a 2013 game against Penn State and the 2014 and 2016 games against Notre Dame.

Tickets in the Syracuse section, which start at $85, go on sale Friday, Nov. 20 online and at the Carrier Dome Box Office (888-DOMETIX). Fans who purchase tickets before Nov. 27 will receive a free ticket to Syracuse's final home game of the 2015 season against Boston College. The Orange will honor its seniors that day in a ceremony 30 minutes before kickoff. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats early to pay tribute to this year's senior class.

Syracuse is the 19th-winningest program in college football and it is one of two schools with national championships in football, men's basketball and men's lacrosse. Syracuse has appeared in 25 bowl games and has earned invitations to every bowl game in the College Football Playoff.

With 18 former players and coaches in the College Football Hall of Fame, Syracuse is one of 16 schools with that many representatives. In the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Syracuse is one of seven schools with at least seven alums enshrined.

Syracuse is one of just 38 schools to have a Heisman Trophy winner, as Ernie Davis was the first African-American to win the award in 1961.

Notre Dame and Syracuse last met in 2014 in the New York's College Classic. The Irish took a 4-3 lead in the all-time series with a 31-15 victory. Notre Dame is 9-1 this season under coach Brian Kelly.
