Fans of HBO's fantasy drama "Game of Thrones" were shocked at the end of the fifth season when Jon Snow was betrayed and stabbed to death.
Many did not understand why the fans' favorite, played by British actor Kit Harington, had to die.
But now they have an answer, courtesy of Jeff Bewkes, CEO of Time Warner (owners of HBO).
In response to a question posed by CNBC's Carolin Roth at a panel discussion, Bewkes (as well as Mike Fries, CEO of Liberty Global) explains why the best characters in popular TV shows always get killed off.
