Japan promises visiting Sri Lanka PM infrastructure, maritime aid

Interesting development. Sri Lanka is now opening itself up to another bidder, who I have to think must be offering more aid (in whatever form) for Sri Lanka's leaders to skim from.

I wonder if this suggests that China might not be as strong in the Indian and Pacific Ocean spheres as had been thought, if other states might do the same, or if this is just a one-off.

And once again I wonder where India might be, especially given its historical tensions with Sri Lanka and India's rising status as an economic and potential naval power. Another variation on the Great Game in the making?
