Area Scouts collect items for annual Scouting For Food drive

TOWN OF ULSTER >> Area Boy and Girl Scouts spent their Saturday collecting more than 70,000 food items as part of their annual Scouting For Food drive, according to a press release issued by the Rip Van Winkle Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

More than 1,500 Scouts and leaders helped distribute the items to 42 area pantries that serve the needy in Ulster and Greene Counties. Area sorting took place at the United Parcel Service facility.

Assisting the Scouts and UPS in the drive, according to the release, were the Kiwanis Club of Kingston, Salvation Army, Peoples Place, Kingston Key Club, Ulster County Community Action, Caring Hands Soup Kitchen, Saint James Methodist Church, Catholic Charities and the Mid-Hudson Rebels softball organization.

Providing trucks and drivers to distribute the food, according to the release, were Herzog’s Home Center, Swim King Pools, Gillette Creamery, Ametek Rotron and Always Moving and Storage Company,
