UPDATE: Woman cleared in Wicomico murder-for-hire case

This report was originally published Aug. 25, 2015.

A Selbyville woman tried to hire a hit man to kill her brother-in-law, a Wicomico County detective alleges.

Corinna Joy, 47, of Selbyville met with a friend at his home in Delmar and asked him if he would kill her brother-in-law, charging documents state. She spoke to the man and provided the target’s name, address and photos of his home, according to charging documents written by Wicomico Bureau of Investigation Detective Tom Funk.

“The pair reportedly talked for two hours about how he could be killed and even discussed placing a bomb under (the victim’s) car,” charging documents state.

Joy has been charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.

After Joy left his home, the friend called the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office, charging documents state. Deputies responded to his home on Aug. 16.

The friend called her the next day on a recorded call with detectives from the Wicomico Bureau of Investigation and told her he would kill the man, but she said she’d have to call back, and later said not to call or text her –– “presumably to avoid police detection and tracking” –– according to charging documents.

At about 10 p.m. that night, Joy came to the friend’s home and gave him $100 to buy a gun, saying she’d bring him another $200 to pay for the rest of a gun, charging documents state.

Joy is being held without bond.
