DEHRADUN: A state-of-the-art commercial driver’s training institute, the second such facility in Uttarakhand, is set to come up in Haldwani in the Kumaon region.
The Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) will be a joint venture of the state government and Tata Motors. The existing IDTR at Jhajra village in Dehradun is a joint venture between state transport department and Maruti Suzuki Private Limited.

The proposed driver’s training institute will come up in a spacious campus of around 10 acres at an estimated cost of around 17 crore. It will have testing tracks at par with international standards. The existing IDTR at Dehradun is also spread over an area of more than 10 acres.
The state deputy transport commissioner, Sunita Singh, told TOI, “We have sent a fresh proposal to the government of India seeking financial sanction for building IDTR as the previous sanctioned amount from the government was not sufficient. Once we get the funds, work will commence.”
According to transport officials, the new driving institute will have all facilities like innovative driving testing system, driving range which is used for imparting driving practice on road for various maneuvers and driving simulator for both heavy motor and light motor vehicle driving training.
