Monday Sector Laggards: Energy, Services

The worst performing sector as of midday Monday is the Energy sector, showing a 1.1% loss. Within that group, Marathon Oil Corp. (NYSE: MRO) and TechnipFMC plc (NYSE: FTI) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 3.6% and 3.5%, respectively. Among energy ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Energy Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLE), which is down 0.9% on the day, and down 3.41% year-to-date. Marathon Oil Corp., meanwhile, is down 4.04% year-to-date, and TechnipFMC plc, is down 9.23% year-to-date. Combined, MRO and FTI make up approximately 3.0% of the underlying holdings of XLE.

The next worst performing sector is the Services sector, showing a 0.6% loss. Among large Services stocks, AutoNation, Inc. (NYSE: AN) and Signet Jewelers Ltd (NYSE: SIG) are the most notable, showing a loss of 3.5% and 3.2%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF (IYC), which is down 0.3% in midday trading, and up 2.51% on a year-to-date basis. AutoNation, Inc., meanwhile, is down 1.25% year-to-date, and Signet Jewelers Ltd, is down 21.40% year-to-date. Combined, AN and SIG make up approximately 0.3% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
