Oroville >> As work continues to transform the old Walmart store into four new businesses, one of the four is already receiving customers.

Harbor Freight Tools has opened at the site at Oro Dam and Feather River Boulevard, even as work continues for the other three occupants of the space.

Walmart moved into its new superstore about a half-mile south of Feather River Boulevard last June, and by October, tenants had signed up to fill the 95,000 square feet of the abandoned building, now called Feather River Crossings.

Harbor Freight is accessed through a new entrance at the northeast corner of the old building. Smart and Final grocery will take the spot next to it facing Oro Dam Boulevard, and Ross apparel will take the northwest corner, where the entrance to Walmart used to be.

Down Feather River Boulevard, Fit Republic fitness center will have an entrance at the southeast corner.

The Ross entrance facade appears to be the least far along of the four, with metal studs framing the structure to come.

The renovation was expected to cost $5 million, according to an earlier story in this newspaper.

The new retail center could bring more than 300 jobs to Oroville.
